Review and DIY: The Science of Soaps

My daughter was in search of a new fun DIY project. While shopping at Target, she found this fun DIY kit: The Science of Soaps. The kit includes everything you need and it’s a super fun project to make with your child.

The kit includes several pieces of clear glycerin soap, two molds (a flower and a star), red and blue soap dye, apple soap scent, two droppers, two stirring sticks and the instruction and soap informational booklet (not pictured).

We first put a couple of pieces of the glycerin soap into a microwaveable cup and heated in the microwave for 20 seconds. Microwave for 10 more seconds if needed until fully melted.

Once melted, we added the soap dye using the dropper. For the soap pictured, we used two drops of blue and two drops of red to make this pretty purple color. We also added two drops of the apple soap scent. Mix well.

We then poured the soap mixture into the flower mold and let it cool for about 30 minutes. For the star soap, we used one drop of blue soap dye only.

Once cooled and hardened, we slowly peeled the soap from the mold and were left with these adorable soaps!

The apple scent was a little strong for me, but my daughter loved it! We used a heart silicone mold and also created a tiny heart soap. My daughter loved this project- it was easy, something that we were able to do together, and we ended up with cute little soaps. This soaps would look great in a guest bathroom or would make cute little gifts for the upcoming holidays!

If you find this cute little kit, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Enjoy!
